I do use cash stephyn, that is why I am wealthy, and you probably have to pay someone just to be broke, spend it all, consume consume consume, have no patience, stay poor!!! atta boy!
-no tee hee I most certainly should not get a "spend 1000 dollars on things I don't need and get 5 dollars back" card. By the way, how much do you have to pay someone to achieve the status of "BROKE"?

Best answer:

Answer by Stepheyne
I think a credit score sounds much more positive, because that's what it actually is-a ranking of how worthy you are to receive credit. Maybe you should use cash if you feel so strongly they're parasites.....

Question by CrazyGideon: Landlord charging us for items included in move-in checklist plus more...?
We just moved out of a house that used to be a frat house. The walls had been painted odd colors before we moved in. The property management company was aware of it and said that they would not charge us for paint or carpet because they know it's trashed already. We got a move-in checklist that was pre-stamped by the management company and we listed the paint and carpet condition as painted odd colors and noted that the carpet was old and torn in some spots.

Well we moved out recently and they are keeping $ 2200 listed as "graffiti repair" and carpet cleaning. On top of that, they are saying we owe $ 820 for 5 days rent (we moved on the 5th of the month) and it looks like they did not receive payment from one of the guys for the final full month.

What do we do? I've been told we can sue but we don't want the charges to hurt our credit in the meantime. The property management company waited until the 30th day to mail us our charge notice which should have been a refund check. I am getting calls from the same 800 number on a daily basis which began about 2 days after we received the letter.
It is written on our move-in checklist which we have a copy of.

Best answer:

Answer by Kasey C
1) WHO did you say was aware of "damage"? Was that in writing? Did any one bother to take pictures and such BEFORE the move-in as "evidence" of pre-existing condition? If you didn't, and they say you do, sounds like you're stuck, but you can always negotiate them down. Basically, if it's NOT written down, it didn't exist.

2) You may have moved in on the 5th, but what date did the company promise you that it's ready to move in? Was it the 1st? If so, then again, you are stuck.

3) Your credit is already hurt unless you sue and win. Better decide now on what you can do based on what you got... pay, or fight.

Question by : How much does "pulling your credit" hurt you?
How much can you have companies pull your credit before it starts hurting you? I know many are deamed a "soft hit" on your credit, but does this actually take away points? I have a construction loan right now and plan on purchasing a mortage after my home is built, but I also need to refinance my truck at the same time. I am worried by pulling my credit with the refi it will hurt me when trying to get my mortage......help?

Best answer:

Answer by Texas McCoy
Certain types of credit checks are OK. You can check your credit yourself once a year and it will not hurt it. It also does not hurt if certain other people such as landlords, companies investigating to see if you're good enough to send a new credit card offer to, etc. check it for normal reasons. I used to own a home, and had it refinanced, and that credit check did not hurt my credit. I had to do it again when I got divorced and my X bought me out of the house, and that didn't hurt it either.

I'm not a pro, and I could be totally wrong here, but I would guess that it should be OK to do what you are describing. If you have a copy of the credit report from the mortgage, and it is within a short period of time to getting the truck refi (one quarter I think?) then you may be able to use the same report without having to pull it twice, cuz the info on it will still be current enough for the lender to use. You should, however, find out if your lender only needs only one credit agency reporting, or reports from all 3.

If you're still unsure before proceeding, just ask your lender. A good lender should be able to answer your question correctly.

hope this helps

Question by Vipassana: Sue mechanic or other options?
I usually hate questions like this, but seeing the situation I'm in, here we go anyway. And before you suggest calling a small claims attorney, I'm actively doing that as well. Just looking for a spread of answers.

Situation in short:

Was driving my car (1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST), when the timing belt broke. Tow truck picked it up, and of course, they suggested towing it to their mechanic shop.

Same day, shop called back, restated that the timing belt broke, and that they could fix the belt for $ 500.
I agree. Two days later they call, and say that they ran a compression test, the compression is bad, the engine is shot. Need new engine. I say no, and have the car towed back to my apartment.

Upon receiving the car at my apartment, I notice a bag of parts on my passenger seat. Popped the hood, and the engine is in a dozen pieces. The motor mount, timing case, and all the belts are just sitting on top of the engine. Timing case is broken. All the plugs are removed, pulleys are missing, etc. The bag on the seat, has 20+ nuts and bolts, from who knows where.

I called the shop back, and their statement was "well, you said you didn't want a replacement engine, so we just gave you the car back." They added that if I really felt it was unacceptable, they would think about it, and get back with me. Three days later, still nothing. I've left an additional message, and sent an email. Nothing.

I've filled a claim with my bank, and they're going to issue a credit, as soon as I fax them some paperwork. Including a second opinion from another shop. Which I've already done, and they had more than a few choice words to say about the condition of the car "repair". By the way, the timing belt isn't even installed. It's just laying on the cam gears. So even if they wanted to claim the charge is for work done...they didn't actually do the agreed work.

Small claims? Continue to try to resolve with the shop? Sue for the cost of repairs only, or add anything for the time lost on a dismantled car....? And no, I'm not looking for thousands and thousands, like half the people on here do.
Top Cat, it's a pity that it was too complicated for you to simply say "there are no attorneys for small claims, you just file it yourself."

But thanks for your amazingly "useful" contribution. Don't strain yourself too much in the future. I know YA is difficult for some.

Best answer:

Answer by Top Cat
Let us know if you find a "small claims attorney."

EDIT: You are welcome. You see, I hate questions like these too, especially when they start out by telling me what answers I am allowed and not allowed to give. Do you see in your question where you specifically order me not to talk about small claims?

I see lots of other people are flocking to your terms and conditions too.

You are right that Yahoo Answers is difficult for some. But before you trot out your sarcasm, you might want to look in the mirror, buddy.

What do you think? Answer below!

I like to know what things mean in detail. However, I am not fully sure on what "Transferable Post-Secondary-School College Credit" means. If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it greatly.

Thank you. :]
So, Community College is considered a Post-Secondary School?

Best answer:

Answer by Mopar Muscle Gal
(post secondary) Any schooling beyond the high school level is considered "post-secondary". The reason why post-secondary is an important label, is because generally, in the U.S., any schooling before graduation of high school is required, but schools after high school are optional and have to be paid for by the student.
(transferable) means the course taken and passed can be transferred (rolled over) to another college and or university

some college classes taken at one college are not accepted by another college
